John the Baptist never cared for winning popularity contests. He wore rough camel hair, ate wild locusts, and confronted sin head-on. By the world’s standards, he was an outsider. But by Heaven’s standard, he was monumental.
Puritan commentator Matthew Poole captured true greatness: “We have a natural ambition to be great in the sight of men. But true greatness is to be great in the sight of God… They are great who do much of the work for which God has sent them into the world.”
Worldly fame is measured by rising above the crowd, accumulating influence, and demanding service. God’s measure of greatness is radically different: stooping to serve, daring to obey, and boldly pointing lost souls to Christ.
When you choose to live uncompromisingly for Jesus, you won’t fit into the status quo. You might be misunderstood, but you will never be overlooked by Almighty God.
Personal Application: Stop chasing the approval of culture today. Measure your success not by human status, but by your humble obedience and willingness to point others to the Savior.
