The Gospel

Knowing God doesn’t mean turning over a new leaf, relying on your own self-righteousness, or simply filling a seat in a church building. It means receiving the free gift of forgiveness and eternal life made possible solely through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Real transformation happens when you stop trying to save yourself and enter into a vibrant, living relationship with your Creator.

The word Gospel literally means “good news.” When we open the Scriptures and look at them simply, line upon line, chapter by chapter, this message unfolds in four foundational truths:

1. God Created Us for Fellowship

God, the source of all life, created humanity in His own image to know Him, reflect His holy character, and experience abundant life in fellowship with Him. Because God is loving and righteous, He designed us to live in perfect harmony with Him according to His divine design.

“for in Him we live and move and have our being, as also some of your own poets have said, ‘For we are also His offspring.’”— Acts 17:28

God did not create us to be distant or isolated; He created us for close, personal fellowship with Himself.

2. Humanity Was Separated by Sin

Instead of trusting God and submitting to His loving authority, humanity chose self-rule and willful disobedience. The Bible calls this sin, which fundamentally means “missing the mark” of God’s perfect, holy standard for abundant living. Because God is completely holy and just, He cannot simply overlook sin.

2a. Sin destroys our relationship with the Creator: It cuts us off from the Source of all light, life, and peace.

2b. The consequence is death: As Scripture plainly warns us:

“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”— Romans 6:23

2c. Human effort cannot bridge the gap: Because every person inherits a fallen human nature from Adam, no amount of good deeds, religious rituals, moral performance, or human systems can erase our debt or clean our hearts.

3. Jesus Provided the Cure Through His Death and Resurrection

Because God loved us too much to leave us in our fallen state, He provided the only way for us to be saved without compromising His justice. He sent His eternal Son, Jesus Christ, to earth—God manifest in human flesh.

3a. His Perfect Life: Jesus lived a completely sinless life under the law, fulfilling God’s perfect standard on our behalf.

3b. His Substitutionary Death: On the cross, Jesus willingly took the judgment for our sins upon Himself. When He shed His precious blood and died, He paid our debt in full (tetelestai), satisfying the demands of God’s justice once and for all.

3c. His Bodily Resurrection: Three days later, Jesus rose triumphantly from the grave. His resurrection demonstrated His total victory over sin and death, declaring with supreme power that He is indeed God, Savior, and Lord.

“…knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver or gold, from your aimless conduct received by tradition from your fathers, but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.”— First Peter 1:18–19

4. Salvation Is a Free Gift Received by Faith

Salvation is not earned by human merit; it is a gift of God’s unmerited grace. To receive this gift, a person must respond to Jesus with true repentance and personal faith.

4a. Repentance: Turning away from self-reliance, self-rule, and sin, and turning whole-heartedly to God.

4b. Faith: Placing your complete trust in Jesus’ finished work on the cross and His resurrection as the sole foundation for your forgiveness, confessing Him as your Lord.

“For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.”— Ephesians 2:8–9

Through simple faith and trust in the Lord Jesus Christ, you are fully forgiven, reconciled to God, indwelt by the Holy Spirit to guide your daily walk, and granted the gift of eternal life.

An Invitation to Receive Jesus

If you are reading this today and you do not have peace with God, know that He is extending His hands of grace toward you right now.

“…Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.”— Second Corinthians 6:2

You cannot clean up your own life before coming to God; you come to Jesus just as you are, and He does the cleansing. He paid your penalty in full when He shed His blood on the cross, and His resurrection declares that He is God, Savior, and Lord.

If you are ready to turn from your self-rule, turn from your sin, and receive Jesus as your Savior and Lord, you can pray from your heart right now. Remember, saying a prayer will not save you—it is trusting in Christ alone that saves. A prayer is simply a way to express your faith to God and thank Him for His salvation.

“Lord Jesus, I come to You recognizing that I am a sinner and that I cannot save myself. I believe that You died on the cross for my sins, shedding Your precious blood in my place, and that You rose from the dead to give me life. I repent of my sin and my self-rule. I place my trust in You alone for salvation, and I confess You as my Lord and Savior. Cleanse me, forgive me, and give me the gift of eternal life. Help me to follow You all the days of my life. Amen.”

The Mystery of the New Birth

When you receive Jesus as your Lord and Savior, believing in your heart that He died for your sins when He shed His blood on the cross and rose again, a marvelous, mysterious transformation takes place inside you. Your human spirit is brought to life by the Holy Spirit.

Suddenly, you begin living a fuller life—entering a dynamic new dimension of the Spirit that you never dreamed existed. It is so glorious, so wonderful, and so far beyond anything of this world that human words often fail to convey it. The apostle Paul spoke of the profound depth of spiritual life when he noted how he was caught up into Paradise and heard words beyond human capacity:

“…how he was caught up into Paradise and heard inexpressible words, which it is not lawful for a man to utter.”— Second Corinthians 12:4

There isn’t any human language that can fully capture the beauty of a transformed heart, because God Himself steps in and makes you brand new from the inside out:

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.”— Second Corinthians 5:17

God gives you a fresh start. The mistakes, guilt, and failures of your past are washed clean by the blood of Christ, completely forgiven and forgotten by God.

Jesus described this transformation as being “born again.” Just as a newborn baby needs pure milk and tender care to grow, a newly born-again believer needs spiritual nourishment and community to mature in the faith.

1. Rest in the Finished Work: Stop trying to earn God’s love or maintain your salvation through legalistic effort. Your acceptance before the Father is anchored in the shed blood of Jesus, not your daily performance.

2. Abide in the Word Daily: Spiritual growth requires spiritual nourishment. Open your Bible every day, reading line upon line, chapter by chapter, allowing the truth of Scripture to transform your mind and shape your choices.

3. Walk in the Spirit: Depend on the Holy Spirit to produce His fruit—love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control—in your relationships, workplace, and home.

4. Gather with a Bible-Centered Fellowship: Do not try to walk the Christian life alone. Find a Bible-centered study group that supports one another through scripture and prayer. If you prefer a traditional church setting, consider looking for a fellowship affiliated with the Calvary Chapel Association. While I am not officially affiliated with CCA, I highly recommend them for their commitment to the sound, systematic, verse-by-verse, chapter-by-chapter teaching of God’s Word from Genesis to Revelation, and surround yourself with believers who support each other in prayer and the Word.

5. Confess Your Faith Publicly: Share your decision and newfound faith with others. Stand up and let your family, friends, and neighbors know what Jesus has done for you. Jesus said:

“Therefore whoever confesses Me before men, him I will also confess before My Father who is in heaven.”— Matthew 10:32
