Mired in a pigpen of his own making, the prodigal son finally came to his senses and headed home. He expected rejection or harsh judgment, but he met a running, loving father ready to forgive.
Confession and forgiveness are two sides of the same cleansing transaction.
Charles Spurgeon captured the beauty of coming home: “There is a wide distinction between confessing sin as a culprit and confessing sin as a child. The Father’s bosom is the place for sorrowful confessions and for cleansing from the daily defilement of our daily walk.”
As believers, we aren’t criminals coming before a strict judge; we are children running into the arms of a loving Father.
When you mess up, don’t hide in the pigpen of guilt or try to fix things on your own. Your Heavenly Father isn’t standing with arms crossed, waiting to condemn—He’s waiting with open arms to restore you.
Personal Application: Is there unconfessed sin keeping you at a distance from God today? Arise and run home. Lay it all down before your Father, receive His cleansing grace, and enjoy sweet fellowship with Him once again.
