“I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.” — John 8:12 (NKJV)

Without the sun, earth would be a frozen, lifeless wasteland. Yet a world without the Son is incomparably darker. Into our pitch-black world, Jesus made a monumental claim: “I am the light of the world.”

Commentator Matthew Henry noted that light requires a response: “It is not enough to gaze upon this light. We must follow it, believe in it, and walk in it; for it is a light to our feet, not our eyes only… Follow Christ, and we shall undoubtedly be guided safely.”

Light isn’t meant to be admired from afar; it’s meant to be followed. Gazing at a flashlight doesn’t help you navigate a dark trail—you must step into its beam.

Jesus doesn’t just illuminate your destination; He guides your next step. Following Him dispels moral confusion, grants wisdom for daily decisions, and ensures you will never stumble in spiritual darkness.

Personal Application: Stop squinting into the darkness of worldly wisdom or personal anxiety today. Step directly into Christ’s light, follow His lead in your decisions, and let His Word illuminate your path.
