Week May 31

“Now it came to pass in those days that He went out to the mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God.” — Luke 6:12 (NKJV)

If anyone could have bypassed prayer, it was the sinless Son of God. Yet Jesus slipped away into the quiet darkness of a mountainside, spending the entire night in communion with His Father.

Charles Spurgeon highlighted the lesson in Christ’s relentless devotion: “While others found rest in sleep, He refreshed Himself with prayer… The occasion for this prayer is notable; it was before He sent for the twelve apostles—prayer was the gate of His enterprise, the herald of His new work.”

Facing huge decisions—like selecting His apostles—Jesus grounded everything in prayer.

When major choices, daunting trials, or new seasons confront you, where do you turn first? You can do far more than pray after you’ve prayed, but you can do nothing of real spiritual value until you’ve prayed.

Personal Application: Don’t rush into big decisions or demanding days in your own strength. Find a quiet spot today, get alone with the Father, and let prayer be the launching pad for your life.
