Jesus is a watchful observer of our worship. Sitting near the temple treasury, He watched as the wealthy tossed in massive sums from their abundance—yet pointed to a destitute widow who dropped in two small copper coins, declaring she gave more than them all.
Commentator Adam Clarke noted: “Christ sees all the motives which lead people to perform their good deeds… He observes the motivations which accompany our actions—whether we act with care or negligence, with a ready mind or with reluctance.”
God doesn’t evaluate giving by the size of the check, but by the condition of the heart and the sacrifice behind the gift. The rich gave out of their surplus; she surrendered everything she had.
Your checkbook is a clear mirror of your spiritual priorities. God owns it all—not just the tithe, but every dollar you hold.
Personal Application: Examine your giving today. Are you giving out of leftover spare change, or out of sacrificial gratitude? Hold your resources with an open hand, giving joyfully and generously to honor the Savior.
