Following Jesus was never intended to be a cozy rest stop on the way to heaven. Scripture describes the Christian walk as a marathon of endurance, a spiritual battle, and a call to vigilant expectation.
In the Olivet Discourse, Jesus demands watchful conduct and fervent service. Oswald Chambers famously described this high calling as giving our “utmost for His highest,” writing: “The Christian life is gloriously difficult… salvation is a glad thing, but it also tests us for all we are worth. God’s grace turns out men and women with a strong family likeness to Jesus Christ.”
Character construction takes time, heat, and pressure. When God refines your heart, resisting His timing or looking for an easy escape only hinders the process.
Christ invested His very life on the cross for you. Giving Him your absolute best isn’t a burdensome demand—it is the highest privilege of grace and the most fitting expression of gratitude.
Personal Application: Are you spiritually awake today, or running on autopilot? Stop resisting God’s refining process in your current trial. Surrender your schedule to Him, stay watchful, and offer your utmost to the Savior who gave His all for you.
