Week of February 22

“Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”Matthew 11:28 (NKJV)

Some believers move so slowly that nothing gets done. Others act as if Christ’s Kingdom depends entirely on their personal hustle. Both extremes lead straight to spiritual exhaustion.

Modern life throws endless “urgent” demands at us, threatening to turn healthy fruitfulness into barren burnout.

Missionary pioneer J. Hudson Taylor noted that Jesus never sent an overburdened, soul-weary servant straight into battle. Before Christ gives us the commission to “go,” He gives us the invitation to “come.” Taylor observed that when we pour out without being filled, our exhausted faces scream to the world, “What a dreadful religion this must be!”

There is nothing spiritual about relentless busyness. Jesus gave His sharpest rebukes to the Pharisees—the ultimate spiritual workaholics who were so busy working for God that they forgot to abide in Him. Resting isn’t sinful; even the Creator rested.

The best part? While you take time to rest, God is still hard at work.

Personal Application: Are you running on empty today? Stop striving in your own strength. Step off the treadmill of religious activity, draw near to Jesus in quiet prayer, and let Him restore your soul before you take another step.
