We offer a million justifications—lack of time, busy schedules, good intentions—yet the bottom line remains unchanged: obedience gets left behind.
In the Parable of the Two Sons, Jesus exposes the tragedy of talk without walk. Evangelist Charles Finney noted that human nature instinctively tries to justify wrong rather than confess it. But excuses grieve God because He sees right through the facade. Finney shared, “The moment I let [my excuses] go completely, I found the gate of God’s mercy wide open.”
That uncomfortable sting in your heart isn’t God rejecting you—it’s Him dismantling your fortress of self-justification so His truth can reach you. Eventually, every excuse will be faced, either in judgment or in repentance. Why hide behind a lie when grace is standing right in front of you?
Personal Application: Stop saying “I go, Lord” while keeping your feet planted. Drop the justifications, confess where you’ve delayed obedience, and step boldly through the open door of His mercy today.
