“Jesus said to him, ‘If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes.’” — Mark 9:23 (NKJV)
A desperate father watched his son contort in pain on the ground, bound by an unclean spirit. Torn between grief and doubt, he cried out, “Lord, I believe; help my unbelief!” (Mark 9:24, NKJV).
Notice where the father originally pointed his doubt: “If You can do anything…” (v. 22). Charles Spurgeon noted that the man put the “if” in the wrong place. Jesus gently moved the “if” right back to him: the issue isn’t God’s capacity; it’s our trust.
We often do the same thing. We look at giant-sized problems and question God’s willingness or power, placing the “if” on Almighty God instead of our own faint faith. But faith taps into God’s omnipotence. As Jesus later reminded His disciples, “With God all things are possible” (Mark 10:27, NKJV).
Personal Application: What “if” are you holding today? Stop measuring God’s ability by the height of your crisis. Be honest about your doubts, ask Him to strengthen your trust, and step out knowing that nothing is beyond His authority.
